I didn’t know it – but my fondness for the summerhouse and the clearing out of the top garage to make a studio seem to make me an unwitting but enthusiastic participant of "National Shed Week", which is apparently in full swing here in the UK this week.
Listening to a feature radio programme on "Woman's Hour" this morning, it was pointed out that sheds have traditionally been thought of as a male refuge – but NO LONGER! Some of the "sheds" featured on the programme were anything-but the traditional "8 x 6" wooden structure at the bottom of the garden – but now anything goes – a shed is whatever you decide it should be. The idea and the ethos you create are more important – "shed-hood" is a state of mind as much as a physical place.
Take a look and listen at some of these delightful domains (especially "The Garden Station") and if you have a shed (in any sense of the word) of your own, write and tell me about it - I'll put pictures up if you send those, too.
Here are some more inspirational refuges - and for more ideas on what to do with the interiors (not strictly sheds, more studio spaces and home offices), take a look here - choose a desk - and enjoy them all!
You are to be commeded on your shed! How neat and I absolutely love your collection of lamps!

Roz, your "shed" (and I use the quotes advisedly -- it's so much more than that) is delightful. My own potting shed was a grim little concrete-block structure that was improved by a new roof which incorporated a vent at the peak and a skylight that really aired it out and opened it up. I've recently done some organizing, but I have more to do. My predecessor left absolute buckets of fertilizers and things that I have no idea how to use, and I intend to dump everything but poisons and killers into my compost heap, and hope nature will use it to enrich my compost. All those spooky buckets full of who-knows-what have got to go. And I've still got pretty pots I need to plant for the remainder of the summer! Thanks for the great and inspiring post.

I heard that programme too! Loved the lady who said her husband had 11 sheds and always on the look out for space for another! LOL! This has inspired me.....I have a couple of shed stories.
