Henry Moore's is one of my favorite artists. I think his sculptures have such a sensual look, I always want to run my hands over them.

My favorite works are in his Mother and Child series, both sculpture and drawings.

Thanks for posting the pictures of some pieces I haven't seen before.

Kew Garden is such a wonderful place. Thanks for sharing the pictures and also for Kew Palace. I would love to see the dollhouse/baby house where I could actually see into the rooms. It looked beautiful. Glad you had such a lovely day out. And, of course, for sharing it with us.

What a lovely tour of the garden and sculpture!

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes a picture without words is worthless. The written communication about the artist informed the eye, didn't it?

Us bloggers with our words and pictures must sometime raise the ante to a single picture plus words is worth more than a thousand pictures.

Roz, thanks so much for posting this. I have seen Henry Moore's sculptures in several places over the years, but this explanation of his inspirations makes me look at his creations differently, too. I thought I had seen some Henry Moores' at Victoria and Albert. Would that be right? They have him in the Palm Spring Arts Museum and I've seen his work at the Met in NYC.

In fact, there has been a downed branch of a tree near where I park at school and all of a sudden I'm thinking, I wonder if I could transform this somehow into a feminine creation of some sort.

Yes, could be a seedpod, but it reminds me of an open sarcophagus. I focus on death too much!

Oh, this was a treat to see...and I love how seeing his inspirations gave you more insight into what you were seeing..wonderful post..

Thanks so much, Roz, for your beautiful pictures and sharing Moore's inspiration(s) behind his sculptures! You have truly informed me once again tonight :)

Roz, sorry to take up comment room with this, but I wonder if you received my reply to your prompt email some days ago? My ISP is messing up my mail so badly, I'm not ever sure if anyone is getting what I answer - or write!!

Lovely photos. Thank you for sharing them.
I especially love the white sculptures against the greens of the gardens. What striking contrast!
