It's August - so once again I return to 'A Month in the Country' as I have done in past years - a daily picture, a paragraph and a prompt. I hope my wanderings around the cottage and further afield will inspire you to capture and reflect upon your own summertime days - whether they are 'in the country' or not.
Tree Lilies on the 'Mediterranean Terrace'
This is the first pot of Tree Lilies that I ever planted - four years ago now, so they are well established, and to me they are the very essence of high summertime, both in their heavy, heady scent and in the abundance of their blooms. They've been nodding a bit this year after being parched for seven weeks, and then doused in last weekend's downpour of rain - but nothing that a bamboo stake did not resolve. To sit in the early evening at the little corner mosaic table with a glass of wine and and be surrounded by heat, humidity and the perfume of lilies is, for me, the perfect summertime experience.
Journal prompt: What is the one item, place or experience that most says 'Summertime' to you??

Lovely post, Roz. Summertime smells are very evocative for me too. So many to chose from - but I still love picking sweetpeas and having little vases of them indoors filling rooms with their scent.

Summertime... Walking barefoot about the house
and the garden... (Feeling the grass between my toes is exquisite).

The scent of roses, lavender and neighbour's barbecues drifting on still, warm air. A sense of time suspended, waiting, waiting.....I'm not sure for what, but there seems to be a dramatic pause on hot summer days.
