It always seems to happen around this time of the year, doesn't it? Coughs and colds spread around and about, and this year, one has spread all over me. Starting a week and a half ago with a common sniffly virus (a visit to the cinema and a large-gathering lecture must have done the trick), it's annoyingly turned into a secondary infection. Having tried everything else, and arriving at the stage where I found breathing, standing upright or attempting to sleep somewhat impossible, I have at last resorted to the antibiotic pathway. It's always a last resort for me, as I am all too aware of how over-used antibiotics can be, but just now, with Things To be Done, they have also become rather necessary.
The lurgy has, however, given me the excuse to linger more than I should on the computer (sitting down, you see), mostly scanning, editing and filing old photographs and lantern slides. I might even get around to displaying and copying 30 year old Super 8 film snips of my family sometime soon - but I'm not feeling physically - or emotionally - strong enough to do that yet…
A mystery from history lantern slide...around about 1890 in a cotton mill?
I'm having some rather wonderful revelations while going through boxes of 100 year old Magic Lantern slides (of which, more later…) and gleaning family history information from the Hive Brain of a particularly good genealogy & photography site (people are so generous with their knowledge).
Tracking down young Grandpa's Boer War adventures...
But for now, here are some more up-to-date 'travels with a camera' - images from my last shopping expedition. With a nod to 'cosy and comforting' (which appeals rather a lot to this 'cushionoholic' at the moment), here are some of the pretty seasonal items from Matelan that say - GREETINGS (and for goodness sake Buck up, old girl!) - to me!
A little bit of Mousy silliness
Oh, and just in case I need an extra bit of comfort...here is my Comforter of the Sick, on guard and keeping me warm! No, I am not looking my best - (cough, cough, splutter, splutter!!) -but honesty at all times...eh? (Hmmm - is that such a good idea?)
Hope you feel better soon! Love your shopping finds-- the mice are adorable.
