I love to collect pictures and paintings, though I don't always have the funds to buy original new art works. But I have found that I can still collect images that I love, as many artists also produce cards and notelets of their works, which makes owning the images much more affordable. This idea works particularly well down in the summerhouse, where I can sit, surrounded by images of wildlife and country life, most of which are actually framed post or greetings cards. (The set below were given as free postcards with 'Period Living' magazine).
…and here are some others, in a two pound frame, that now sit on the summerhouse desk
The frames themselves I find either at the local 'Pound Shop' or pick up for next to nothing in charity shops. It's surprising what you can find if you always keep your eye open for interesting ones, and if you have a mixture of disparate 'junk' frame styles and want to display a number of separate images as a group, consider painting the frames all one colour.
You can have your own 'Gallery in the Garden'...or anywhere else, without breaking the bank. I think 'Venice in the Bathroom' will be next!
Journal prompt: How do you beautify your home on a budget? What memories of the past do you have of yourself and your own parents & family doing the same?
I also have a bunch of frames (in a box in the basement) and frame different pictures. I also have found treasures at garage sales and now I have one picture painted of a peasant woman that my late friend sat for as the model. she's dressed in a cultural outfit and I've got to get it to the framer as it is on untempered masonite and will take someone who knows what they're doing to frame it. I have another picture of her - the artist was one of her husbands. Lovely lady and fond memories.
