My hair became unruly and totally out of control during lockdown - did you fight a battle with yours as well? Thankfully I was able to call upon my lovely hairdresser, Sharon, to sort out the birds nest on my head as soon as she was ever allowed to do so (though this last week has played havoc with my wispy curls, which have spent most of their time in a steam bath at temperatures in the mid 30s and humidity hitting 100% over the last few days)
As with the humans, so with the non-human beings here; although we've tittivated and trimmed in the garden as a matter of course, the combination of warm weather and intermittent downpours throughout the last few months have made everything just romp away, so that now perennials and shrubbery, grass and other greenery needs seriously taking in hand.
(The old loo is lurking behind this triffid!)
So just a few photographs here of the work I did this morning (in the drizzle once again), a couple of hours pruning of the Lonicera nitida, which I use here as a very fine substitute for the much slower growing Box and with none of the problems that could come along with Box Blight.
I use small (some call them ‘Ladies’) shears, as they are very manoeuvrable and you can get quite sharp curves cut with them. They are also very useful for picking in between the clematis which has wound itself through both bushes. A combination of these shears and my superb Felco secateurs will get most pruning jobs done. Before, during and after - I think the difference is fairly obvious and very satisfying.
But as in life, though one mostly keeps a constant, almost unconscious eye on the mundane things of life which need to be kept under control, on occasion, one also just has to accept that there are some things over which we can have little or no influence – other than in how we choose to perceive them.
Sometimes, we just have to let go of expectations. (Though my appearance is just a little more orderly now!)
Anything been out of control recently - in your garden or elsewhere in your life? Any tips on how to manage things? When things become unmanageable, where do you turn? To whom or what do you turn to find help? Do you find it difficult or easy to ‘just let it go’?
